Questions About Home Pilates Lessons in London

What do I need for my first Home Pilates Visit?

For your first Home Pilates Visit, you’ll simply need space in your residence to be taught, and a mat to lie down on. If you currently don’t have a mat to hand, let us know, and we can arrange one to be brought along for your first lesson.

You can then discuss with your teacher whether you might benefit from the use of small props, such as elastic bands, small balls, hand weights, etc.

What should I wear for home Pilates lessons?

Clothing should be comfortable and easy to move in. Any fitness clothes will be fine, ideally not too loose so your teacher will be able to better check your alignment, and lessons can be taken in socks or barefoot without issue.

Do I have to be young to learn Pilates?

Pilates is for everyone. There’s no upper limit – our teaches regularly work with 60+ clients who are keen to look after their posture and ease range-of-movement and strength as they grow older.

Why is Pilates a popular form of exercise?

Pilates helps you work with your body in low-impact, controlled movements designed to gradually increase your strength and mobility.

The greatest thing about the method is that it can be adapted to individual needs. Athletes, dancers, pensioners, gym-goers, new mums, office workers – people from all abilities use Pilates to achieve their fitness goals and perform everyday tasks with less effort and more pleasure.

Where in London do you offer Home Pilates Visits?

Currently, we cover zones 1-4 of London with our teachers – if you’re unsure whether or not we offer London home Pilates visits in your area, feel free to get in touch, as we might well have a teacher within range.

About our founder, Mara Domenici

Mara moved from Italy to London in 2007 and graduated from Trinity Laban with a BA in Dance Theatre. She qualified as a Pilates teacher with Body Control and has been teaching Pilates for over 10 years.

Between 2015 and 2019 Mara ran her own Pilates studio in Greenwich (London), managing an average of 150 active clients per month and a team of up to 7 teachers. She relocated outside of London after the birth of her first child, and she now lives in Kent with her husband, son, and daughter.

In over 10 years in the Pilates industry, Mara has come across many different teachers and training providers. She thinks it is fundamental for a client to feel in safe hands, and therefore ensures that the quality of teaching that MDHP offers is at the highest standards. She achieves this through thorough initial interviews where prospective teachers teach her a sample class. She also offers regular instructor classes to maintain communication with the teachers also from a Pilates point of view.

Mara is trained to teach on all Pilates machines and has dealt with different injuries. Over the years, she has also gained specific qualifications to teach pre and postnatal women, people with osteoporosis, the elderly, women during and post menopause, and people with chronic lower back pain.
